Sometimes men’s clothes work like women’s clothes. Sometimes women’s clothes work like men’s clothes.

Sometimes making men’s clothes work like women’s clothes makes it seem like men and woman are the same. Sometimes making women’s clothes work like men’s clothes makes it seem like women and men are the same.

But other times, making one gender’s clothes work like the other’s clothes only calcifies perceived differences.

Androgyny in fashion often works by capitalizing on intuited difference, even thought the articles of clothing work like other articles of clothing.

There is a new Lay’s potato chip commercial that works like a commercial for packaged chocolate.
Defining Characteristics of Chocolate Commercials:
-Beauty shots of packaged chocolate, of well-manicured female fingers taking chocolate coming out of package, of said fingers putting chocolate into lipsticked mouth of woman (see more on woman below.)
-Optional beauty shot: Chocolates landing in a bowl
-Slender woman, alone. Smiles. No sustained laughing (after all, this is not an ad for salad).
